The Event
If you have flown in the British Open Series (BOS) or British Nationals competitions last year and would be interested in Flying in the Bleriot Cup this year please let me know asap by replying to me separately at moc.dlrowltn|sdleihs.divad#moc.dlrowltn|sdleihs.divad (copy John Aldridge on moc.loa|daehteemgh#moc.loa|daehteemgh) and include a line or two stating what previous flying experience you have.
What and Where is it?
The Bleriot Cup is a long standing Flying Competition between the French and British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Teams. It is based in both France and Britain on an alternating rota. This year the competition will be on home soil, hopefully being held in The Lake District. It is a fiercly fought yet light hearted and friendly competition where the tasks have been known to extend to 2 or 3 am!!
Who should apply?
Teams generally consist of twelve pilots, six each of hang glider and paragliders. Some experienced pilots are essential to give guidance to the newer or less experienced guys (or Girls). Ideally it is aimed at those who have flown XC on a number of occasions and want to extend this to achieving goal more frequently. The goals are routinely a lot more achievable than those of the British Ooen Series or Nationals Competitions and tactical or team flying plays a greater part. The competition is also used by the French as a proving ground for their numerous "new to competition" and relatively younger pilots.
When is it?
This year the dates are not yet finalised but the 14th to 21st July are currently being suggested, immediately following the Yorkshire Dales BOS round… In reality the Dales round will serve as excellent practice being held immediately beforehand.
Well….. What are you waiting for?
Please hurry as the intention is to pick team places by the end of the first British Open Series round… that's 2nd - 6th May.
