REPORT DAY 1:

The weather forecast was for light SSW winds and heavy showers. We duly headed for Clatter but it was raining as pilots arrived and no-one seemed keen to carry across to the take off. The day conitinued to have bright spells followed by short showers, however some CB cells were seen to be developing into very large beasts. After a number of rebriefs, it became apparent that setting a task was very unlikely and the day was canned at 2pm.

Most pilots left the hill, but the keener ones that were rigged, stayed behind to try to fly. After much waiting about, Pete Coad ran off at about 4:45, followed by Graham Phipps and a few others shortly afterwards. Some even made a downwind dash for a short XC .

Stand-in meet director Mark “the vet” Stewart briefed us at the new HQ in the Powis Arms Pub at Lydbury North, just south-west of the Long
Mynd. There were a few new pilots, which was good to see, and for the first time in several years the entry was not all men, with two women entered. The forecast was for a light south-south-west wind with
a strong possibility of heavy showers in the afternoon. We set off for Clatter and drove through several showers on the way.

There were already several, large-slow moving Cu-Nims around, so although it was dry when we arrived enthusiasm was somewhat dampened. There were re-briefs at 1pm and 2pm due to the continuing showers but only a few pilots bothered to carry their gliders the few hundred yards to launch. The day was eventually canned as it was felt that there wouldn't be enough time between showers to run a decent task. However, some pilots did fly later on and three made it the 30km or so back to Bishop's Castle near the comp HQ.
