The Derbyshire and Lancashire gliding club (http://www.dlgc.org.uk/) will be our venue for the Derbyshire round of the BOS this year. It has the possibility to be a great venue as it has all we need. They have Modest Camping facilities, Bed rooms if booked, Small Cosy Bar, a kitchen/dining room where breakfasts and evening meals will be available upon request and a Breifing room with Wifi and projector for lectures. Plenty of toilets but the showers are in short supply(only 2), so you may need to be patient while waiting and quick with the soap.
If you fancy camping in the nearest village, this would have to be Hope. there are 2 good campsites close to the Travelers Rest pub, this is a nice big place that does meals too. but there are lots of other places to eat all along the hope valley including Castleton. I'm sure you will enjoy the area and I hope we get some good flying..
I hear the gliding club has a flight simulator in a back room and if we are good they may let us have a go with that , additionally if time allows there may be opportunities for some to experience flying a sailplane for real.
Camping suggestions
Camping will be available at the gliding club at a reasonable rate but they only have 2 showers. may be a queue in the morning.
Rooms are £12 per person per night - we have 5 singles and 2 twins - booked in advance or pot luck on the day - book them via Wayne Thompson either by email or 01433 623555
Tents/Caravans/Motorhomes are £6 for the first person & £3 for each additional person. We have no hookups.
Camping near Hope. about 4 miles from the club house.
Suggestions :-
CAMPING -http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2596 - Recommended as the pub is only a short distance away.
CAMPING 2 - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/t/Laneside-Caravan-Park-Hope-Valley-1793.htm - second best - large site probably good amenities and still not too far away from the pub but may be more expensive than the above.
The retrieve system, how did it work out, well you tell me, drivers and pilot input would be useful, please mail or phone me in confidence so that we may improve things in the future. The panel have decided to do similar in the Peaks but numbers may well be limited, so first come first served, details and form on Goal site soon. Please do not send any money but be prepared to hand over £50 at the start of the comp. Regards Pete. 01209716522

Congratulations to our champions, Grant Crossingham {flexwing}, Paul Harvey {rigid} and Dave Corbett {club}. Task 3 saw Paul Harvey as task winner and Bruce Kavanagh top flexwing, well done to all. A mention should also go to Darren Brown, Ben Philpott, Tim Dotchin and Richard Hunt who all achieved personal best distance's on task 3. I would also like to thank Bruce and Johnny Carr who went to the aid of our damaged pilots who had heavy landings on task 3, thankfully neither pilot is to badly hurt and should recover quickly. All the best, see you in the Peaks in 3 weeks,. Regards Pete.
